“I’ve been thinking about what I want to do.”

“Mhm.” Gabriel said, looking at you from the corner of his eye.

You and the archangel lived in a little cottage he’d created for you. The agreement had been that before you go off and live your life, he would get to train you. You said you’d agree, only if you got to live somewhere, in your own words, from a fairy-tale. He didn’t seem to mind.

Just then, you sat back to back, enjoying a wonderful display in the butterfly garden. Species from India, England, and the Western continents swirled in the air, landing delicately on heads of flowers that you were quite sure were from Gabriel’s own imagination. Their wings cast faint stained glass patterns on your faces, thrown by the sun through the delicate membranes.

You grinned at Gabriel. His face held a drowsy, dream-like quality as his eyes followed the swirling creatures. If you hadn’t known he was an angel, you’d think he would nod off at any second.

“I want to become a hunter.” You said proudly.

Gabriel’s eyes popped open. “You want to what?”

“I want to be a hunter! I met so many when I was traveling, and with the amount of demons I managed to dodge or kill, I’m practically one already.”

The corner of his mouth twitched. “You could never be a hunter.” He declared.

“And why not?”

“You are too sweet.” He said. He punctuated his point by snapping a sucker into existence and popping it into his mouth. The stem of the lollypop dangled sideways between his lips.

You laughed and stood up, brushing off your jeans. “Sweet, huh? Remember the club that I told you I worked at when you found me?”

“Mhm.” He hummed around the candy, eyeing you lazily.

“Do you know what I did there?”

“Mm?”

“I was a stripper.”

Gabriel removed the lollypop from his mouth and slowly looked at you, eyes trailing from your feet to your face. He smirked so wickedly, it made you blush. “Oh, sugar.”

You barked a laugh and covered your face. “And you call yourself an angel!”

“Sweetness, I am the most angelic angel you’ll ever meet.” He reached out and grabbed your hand, pulling you back down with him. You tumbled down, landing softly on your back. He positioned himself over you. The sun framed his golden hair.

“So my girl wants to be a hunter?” He asked, his nose almost touching yours.

“I do. I was made like this for a reason. If I can’t be a doctor, then I need to help people some other way.”

“Then I think you will. It’s not like I could stop you.”

“Nope, you couldn’t.” You said, and he smiled.

“Well, before I let you go on to become the best hunter in the whole world, there’s one thing I need to do.”

“Get off me?” You joked.

“Nope. I need to kiss you.” He answered playfully.

“Then by all means, angel.”

He took that as the go-ahead. Gabriel leaned down, pausing just before he connected your lips, and murmured, “You’re beautiful.” He pressed his lips so gently to yours, like you were fragile, made of butterfly wings.

You found yourself responding, turning your head and deepening the kiss. He slowly pulled away, and you made to follow him, causing him to chuckle against your mouth.

You sighed and leaned back in the grass. He kiss was tender and warm, like sunshine. He made your heart beat as if it had tiny fluttering wings.

Gabriel pulled you into a sitting position.

“Kiss me again!” You said dramatically.

Gabriel rolled his eyes, and pecked you on the cheek.

“Gaaabe…” You whined.

He laughed and said. “I hope you like tattoos.”

You looked at him, confused, and he tapped your chest above your shirt’s neckline. You pulled down your shirt just a bit. Right over your heart was an intricate, glowing blue circle of symbols.

“When did you do that?” You gasped, surprised.

“While were smooching. Now I can find you anywhere in the world, sense your emotions, tell when you’re in danger. It’ll help a lot while you’re off trying to save the world.” He said, almost as if he was trying to convince you.

“Thank you, Gabe. And of course it’s all right.” You said, answering his unspoken question. “But what is it exactly?”

“It’s called marking. It’s the first step to an angel courtship. Basically, we’re going steady.”

You nodded, and looked again at the intricate, interlocking patterns. “How do I give you one?”

“Now, that is a much more, how should I put this, in depth process.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows.

“Down, boy.”

Gabriel hooted with laughter and pulled you close, nuzzling his nose into your neck.

“Gabe, stop!” You giggled. “Seriously!”

He pulled away and kissed your nose. “About your big hunting gig, I think I can set you up with a mentor. I have some false hunter identities that come in handy with keeping up with the supernatural world.”

“Awesome.”

“You ever heard the name Bobby Singer?”

You thought for a moment then nodded. “Yeah, I’ve heard it thrown around a bit by some hunters.”

“Well, sugar, you’re about to become his newest protégé.”
